Pedrotty's Best Gives Him and the Bears a Win

The Yakima Bears beat the Everett Aquasox 4-3 Thursday at Yakima County Stadium and now lead the five-game series 2-0. The Bears improved to 3-5 in the second half of the Northwest League season with the victory.
Pitching led the way in the win, as Bears starter John Pedrotty had his longest and best outing of the season. Pedrotty allowed only earned run in six and a third innings on his way to his first professional win.
Pedrotty was spotted the lead early by the Bears offense, as Marc Bourgeois hit a triple in the first inning to score Westley Moss, who had reached on a single.
Aggressive base running led to two Bears runs in the second inning. Tyson Van Winkle reached on a double and then scored from second on a Danny Pulfer single. Pulfer went from first base to third base on a single to left and then he scored on a wild pitch.
After a pair of unearned runs in the third for the Aquasox, Tyler Bream hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to put the Bears in front 4-2.
With one out in the top of the seventh inning, Pedrotty left the game with two runners on. One of those runners would score while Mike Blake was on in relief. Blake went on to pitch one and a third innings total without a run charged to him. Randy Hamrick earned his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. The Bears staff faced only three batters in seven of the nine innings and all five hits allowed were singles during the 4-3 win.
The Bears outhit the Aquasox 7-5 and all of the Bears runs were scored with two outs. Moss led the way with a 2-for-4 game, while Bourgeois went 1-for-2 with a triple and two walks. The bottom three batters in the order, Bream, Van Winkle, Pulfer, all went 1-for-3 and all scored a run.
The Bears go for the series win Thursday at Yakima County Stadium. Game time between the Bears and Aquasox is scheduled for 7:05. Right-handed pitchers Brad Wilson of the Bears and Stephen Kohlscheen of the Aquasox are expected to start.
