Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

It didn't take the Waterloo Black Hawks long to find their offense Saturday in Green Bay. Not quite five minutes into the first period, John Lee scored a powerplay goal, the first of five tallies on the evening as the Hawks earned a decisive 5-1 victory.

Lee's goal was the only one in the opening period, but Waterloo had a similar beginning to the second. A two-man advantage to start the period went for naught, but before the shift ended Matt Arhontas put in the game's second goal. A key penalty kill on a Gambler two-man advantage in the mid-second, coupled with a Billy Maday goal on a scramble in the Green Bay goal mouth gave Waterloo a brief 3-0 lead. With one second remaining during the middle period Sergio Somma would score the only Green Bay goal on a powerplay.

Waterloo finished the win in the third period. Craig Smith stole a puck and forced Gambler netminder Nick Graves out of position, allowing Kyle Reeds to convert on a scoring opportunity. Smith would score himself in the final minutes with the net empty. Ryan Rondeau stopped 23 of 24 shots in the win.

The Black Hawks are scheduled for a home-and-home series against Des Moines next beginning on Friday at KGGO Arena. Waterloo returns home on Saturday to host the Buccaneers at 7:05.
