'Hawks close out first half with loss

FARGO, N.D. - The Calgary Vipers drubbed the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks xxx on Sunday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. The Vipers closed out the first half of the season 25-22 overall, while Fargo-Moorhead dropped to 28-20.

Calgary got home runs from Pedro Santana, Adam Shorsher and Fehlandt Lentini. Shorsher finished the game 4-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Santana was 4-for-6 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Joe Mathis was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Fargo-Moorhead.

Calgary stater Jeff Brewer (3-2) picked up the victory. He pitched 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. Brewer struck out six batters and walked one. Joe Sergent (6-2) took the loss for the RedHawks, allowing ten runs in 3.1 innings pitched.

The entire Northern League will be off on Monday before the second half of the season starts on Tuesday night at ballparks across the league. The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will open a three-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. Game time is 7:05 p.m., with Todd George getting the start for the RedHawks. The T-Bones will counter with Jonathan Krysa.
