
Havoc Readies For Playoffs

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc enter the 2011 SPHL playoffs as the number three overall seed and will host the Columbus Cottonmouths in round one. Game One will be in Huntsville on Thursday, March 31 at 7:30 at the Wilcoxon Municipal Ice Complex. Game two is in Columbus on Saturday night and game three, if needed, will be back in Huntsville at the Ice Complex on Sunday at 5:00.
Thursday, March 24 - Huntsville 3, Pensacola 6
PENSCOLA, FL - Midway through the second period, the Huntsville Havoc held a 3-1 lead over the Pensacola Ice Flyers and were only 30 minutes away from securing the number three seed in the SPHL playoffs. That was before Penscola scored four straight goals to wrap up a 6-3 win.
Kevin Cooper and Kyle Laughlin scored early first period goals before Kyle Dorowicz scored on the powerplay for Pensacola with a little over a minute left in the first period to cut the score to 2-1.
Chris Bratina added an early second period goal for the Havoc and they once again had a two goal lead. Chris Wilson cut it to 3-2 with 13:23 left in the second and the Havoc took a one-goal lead into the final period, something that had plagued them for much of the second half of the season.
Brett Liscomb, Tanner Schultz, Tyler Lyon and Tyler Barr all scored third period goals for the Pensacola.
Mark Sibbald made 41 saves in the loss as Pensacola outshot the Havoc 47-26 including 13-3 in the third period. Ryan Scott made 23 saves in the win.
Friday, March 25 - Pensacola 1, Huntsville 2 - SO
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Dan McWhinney stopped four of five shots in the shootout as the Huntsville Havoc beat the Pensacola Ice Flyers 2-1 Friday night and secured the number three seed in the SPHL Playoffs.
Kevin Cooper put the Havoc when he went top shelf on Ryan Scott on a great drop pass from Glenn Detulleo at the 15:38 mark of the first period.
Eric Stoyanovich tied the game with a short-handed goal with 7:33 to go in the second period.
Kyle Laughlin and Brett Liscomb both scored in the first shootout attempt for each team. Ray Ortiz scored the game-winner on the fourth Havoc attempt as McWhinney made stopped four straight shots.
McWhinney finished the night with 29 saves while Scott made 33 in the loss.
Saturday, March 26 - Knoxville 4, Huntsville 1
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Robert Sich scored two goals :30 apart in the first period as the Knoxville Ice Bears ended the Havoc regular season with a 4-1 win Saturday night.
Jon Higgins added a second period goal for Knoxville and the Ice Bears took a 3-0 lead into the second period.
Mike MacDonald ended the shutout when he scored with 8:28 left in the third. Mark Van Vliet added an empty net goal with :56 left to seal the win.
Dan McWhinney started for the Havoc and took the loss. He played 29:17 and made 13 saves and allowed three goals. Mark Sibbald made nine saves in relief. Thomas Lee made 40 saves in the win for Knoxville.

If any ticket remain, they will go on sale to the general public starting at 2:00 on Thursday at the Ice Plex.
Sunday, April 3rd vs Columbus (if needed) - Game three of the 2011 SPHL Playoffs. Havoc Season Ticket Holders only can purchase their tickets from 9:00am-12:00pm at the Havoc Office. If any tickets remain, they will go on sale at 2:00 at the Ice Plex.
