January 17, 2024 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
Greenville Triumph SC News Release
Twenty-one year old, Hassan Gabo, completed his rookie season last year as one of the youngest players on the Triumph team. Before signing his first professional contract with Greenville back in February 2023, the defender competed for several teams throughout his teen years:
2019 Real Salt Lake U-17 squad
2019-2020 VK Cobras FC youth club
2022 Somalia U-20 team
Omar and Abdi Mohamed, brothers and former Greenville players, trained Gabo through the 18×26 Academy, their soccer development program in Somalia. With their guidance, Gabo became the first 18×26 Academy player to move into the professional ranks.
The Somalian native made his match debut on April 22, 2023, securing the 2-0 win over Lexington SC. Despite facing injuries throughout the season, Gabo tallied six clears, four interceptions, 39 passes, 32 duels, and played a total of 116 minutes.
"Hassan is another really good signing for us. He's had a year under his belt understanding our club and our system. I think that moving forward as he's matured that he will be a really good addition to our back line."
Greenville Triumph Head Coach, Rick Wright
Gabo is set to embark on his second season with the Triumph as a returning 2024 roster signee.
