Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Worcester, MA - March 2nd, 2010 - When the Tornadoes enter training camp they'll encounter their skipper's new right-hand man. Former New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds scout Kevin Hartigan will join the coaching staff to help the Tornadoes once again reach the Can-Am League Championship.

Hartigan's signing comes on the heels of the departure of the Tornadoes Roger LaFrancois who left his coaching post after three seasons to join the St. Louis Cardinals' minor league staff. Hartigan, like LaFrancois, is no stranger to big league baseball, having served as a Major League Baseball scout for eleven years.

The West Boylston native has worked with the Tornadoes since their inaugural season helping to evaluate players during spring training. Hartigan has also spent time with the Clark University baseball team during winter training as a hitting instructor and served as an assistant coach for the 2008 season. In addition to finding pro talent, Hartigan has been heavily involved in the West Boylston Little League, taking four U-12 teams to the Cooperstown Dreams Park National Invitational Baseball Tournament as a head coach and three more as an assistant.

A Worcester Firefighter for the past twenty years, Hartigan will be a great help to Tornadoes Manager Rich Gedman. Tornadoes General Manager Jorg Bassiacos said of Hartigan, "Kevin has been a great help to us over the past five seasons and we're excited to have his expertise and eye for talent fulltime this season."

Hartigan and the Tornadoes will kick off their sixth season on May 28th at Campenelli Stadium against the Brockton Rox. The Tornadoes return home for opening day at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field on June 3rd as they take on the Sussex Skyhawks in a four game series.
