Hartford Look to Bounce Back in Tampa
August 12, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Hartford Athletic News Release
HARTFORD ATHLETIC (7-5-3) vs TAMPA BAY ROWDIES (10-6-0)
Date: Friday, August 13th
Time: 7:30 PM ET
Location: Al Lang Stadium, St. Petersburg, FL
Local TV: WCTX MyTV9
Streaming: ESPN+ or hartfordathletic.com/watch
LAST TIME OUT:
It was goals galore in Colorado Springs on Saturday night as Hartford Athletic fell to Colorado Springs Switchbacks 4-2 in front of a rowdy crowd at Weidner Field. The Boys in Green battled from behind for the bulk of the contest but could not complete the comeback.
CONOR CONTINUES TO IMPRESS:
Conor McGlynn has been a fan favorite for many of the Athletic faithful this season after his wonder strike from half field caught headlines all over the world. McGlynn has played 15 matches for Hartford, with 4 goal contributions, primarily from a deeper midfield role. This season, Conor is joint-third for most goal contributions this season. For a player whose position is not one that is traditionally on the stat sheet, it is impressive and important for Hartford that he continues this great form. Against Miami in Hartford's 2-0 win at home, Conor came on off the bench in the 63rd minute, and scored in just four minutes later, proving that his effectiveness can come off the bench in a short spell as well as in the course of a full game as a starter.
WINLESS WORRIES:
For the first time this season, Hartford is winless in 3 games. For many, results are all that matters, but for Head Coach Harry Watling and Hartford, the journey is just as important. After Hartford's tough defeat to Colorado, Athletic's Head Coach had this to say: "The boys worked hard all night running their socks off for the club.... and they never stop fighting... We will dust ourselves off quickly and get back at it" This Hartford team has heart, and it is up to this young squad to use this winless stretch of games to learn and come out stronger going into the second half of this season.
FROM THE GAFFER:
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Hartford Athletic, Conor McGlynn, MF #28
In Hartford's last 4 matches, Conor has 2 goals, one coming as a substitute against Miami to seal the win; the other in the form of an important equalizer against Colorado to keep Hartford in the game early on. As a midfielder whose role is primarily in deeper areas, 2 goals in 4 games are nothing to shy away from. He looks to get on the ball and is not scared to create chances from wherever he may be on the pitch. Expect Conor to continue this form heading into a big game for Hartford.
Tampa Bay Rowdies, Max Lachowecki, MF #16
Max comes into the Athletic game in fantastic form, with a goal and assist away against New York Red Bulls II. Lachowecki created 6 chances and had 5 key passes in the New York match, as well as 4 interceptions and 3 shots on target. Max is a left midfielder who plays as a wing back in Tampa's 3-4-3 system. Coming off his best performance of the season, he will be eager to get back on the pitch and continue that great form.
INJURY REPORT:
Hartford Athletic:
Out: Luka Prpa (Foot), Preston Tabort Etaka (Hand)
Questionable: Christian Gómez (Knee), Kenan Hot (Calf)
Tampa Bay Rowdies:
Out: Luiz Fernando, Dayonn Harris
Questionable: Leo Fernandez, Juan Tejada
ABOUT THE OPPONENT:
Hartford travel to St. Petersburg, Florida, to take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies. This will be their third encounter this season. Hartford lost at home to the Rowdies back in June 1-0, but then reciprocated by winning 1-0 in St. Petersburg. Tampa is second in the Atlantic Division with 30 points and the joint-best goal differential in the division. They have conceded the least number of goals (15) in the division, but have also scored the least in the top 5 of their division. Tampa is a hard team to beat, with a pragmatic style of play and organized defense.
