Hartford Colonials News Release

HARTFORD, CT - The Hartford Colonials of the United Football League will play a UFL-officiated inter-squad scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 28, at Immaculate High School in Danbury from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The Colonials offense features former NFL quarterback Josh McCown, running backs Andre Dixon (UConn) and Lorenzo Booker (Florida State), and fullback Asaph Schwapp (Notre Dame). Players to watch on defense include cornerback Ryan Palmer (Texas), linebacker Kenny Ingram (Florida State) and lineman Jonas Seawright (North Carolina).

The two-hour exhibition will be a homecoming for Colonials Head Coach Chris Palmer, who graduated from Immaculate High and played quarterback for the Mustangs before going on to a successful coaching career that included two decades in the NFL.

"I look forward to seeing many familiar faces and putting on a good show for the fans," said Coach Palmer, a member of the Immaculate High School Sports Hall of Fame. "This scrimmage is a key step for the team as it prepares for the September 18th season opener against Sacramento at Rentschler Field. We must reduce our roster from 70 players to 52 by September 9, so there will be some hitting as players compete for jobs."

Saturday's scrimmage at Immaculate High will be the second time Coach Palmer and his staff have been to Danbury since the spring. Back in May, UConn's Dixon was one of 245 players who auditioned at an open tryout at Immaculate.

The Colonials have practiced twice a day since training camp started Aug. 18 at Sage Park in Berlin. The team will practice at Xavier High on Saturday morning from 9-11 before departing for Danbury in the afternoon.

The Colonials open the UFL season Sept. 18 against Sacramento, led by former NFL All-Pro quarterback Daunte Culpepper, at Rentschler Field. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. To purchase tickets call 860-718-0141.
