Hartford Colonials Running Back Lorenzo Booker Signs Contract With Minnesota Vikings

December 7, 2010 - United Football League (UFL 1)
Hartford Colonials News Release

Running back Lorenzo Booker, the leading rusher for the Hartford Colonials last season, signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings and is expected to be added to the active roster.

Booker rushed for 410 yards on 76 carries, averaging a UFL-best 5.4 yards, and amassed 650 all-purpose yards with two touchdowns in seven games. He had 21 receptions for 240 yards.

Booker, 26, set two UFL records last season. In the season opener, he caught a screen pass and turned it into an 80-yard touchdown reception, the longest in the league. In Week 7, Booker set a single-game record when he rushed for 147 yards.

"I'm very pleased for Lorenzo. He did a great job for us in Hartford," Colonials Head Coach and General Manager Chris Palmer said. "I think it's a tribute to how well he played with the Colonials. Hopefully our fans will get a chance to watch him play against the Giants this weekend."

The Vikings play the New York Giants on Sunday.

Booker is the fourth player from the Colonials to sign with an NFL team. Offense linemen Jacob Bender (Redskins) and Colin Brown (Ravens), and defensive end Derek Walker (Seahawks) have signed with practice squads.

"I am really excited," Booker said. "I am going to have to make sure I don't get too hyped up during that first game back out there."

Before playing for the Colonials, Booker spent two seasons in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins (2007) and Philadelphia Eagles (2008).
