Hartford Colonials News Release
Notes from Hartford Colonials Training Camp - Wednesday, September 1, 2010
QB WOODSON AND THREE OTHERS RELEASED: The Hartford Colonials released quarterback Andre Woodson, a sixth-round pick by the New York Giants in the 2008 draft. The team also cut former NFL defensive lineman Tim Anderson and wide receiver Travis Shelton. Buster Davis, a third-round pick by Arizona in 2007, informed the team that he has decided to retire. With Woodson gone, Josh McCown and Ryan Perrilloux are the only quarterbacks on the roster.
17 DAYS AND COUNTING: The Colonials play their season opener Sept. 18 against Sacramento and former NFL All-Pro QB Daunte Culpepper at Rentschler Field. Ticket prices starts at $15. For information, call 860-718-0141.
GIVING BACK: Colonials players will visit the Connecticut Children's Medical Center on Friday morning to spend time with patients and answer phones at the 102.9 WDRC Children's Miracle Network Radiothon. Another group of players will spend time reading and doing activities with preschoolers at the Boys & Girls Club of New Britain.
FIVE QUESTIONS WITH... Colonials offensive tackle Pete Clifford, a New Hampshire native, is back in New England. He has fond memories growing up in the sports-crazy region.
1. What was it like growing up in New Hampshire?
"It was a lot of fun growing up out East. I like the East Coast, near Boston. I got into the Boston sports a lot, the Red Sox and following them. It wasn't until I was in college when we got a little taste of the World Series and winning the World Series. That was a good time"
2. Now that you're back in New England, what's it like to play in Hartford?
"The scenery is great, and the weather is unpredictable. Last week it was in the 60s. Now it's in the 100s. That's a little crazy. Otherwise, I like being back home.
3. What was it like playing Big 10 Football at Michigan State?
"It was a lot of fun. Pounding it week in and week out against the best players in the country. Being a Michigan State Spartan, it was awesome."
4. What are the stops you've made professionally from Michigan State to Hartford?
"I started out in Arizona and pulled my calf in training camp. Then I worked out and pulled my calf again so I was out that whole year. Then I got signed by the Titans and messed up my ACL. It's been a tough road so far, but hopefully I stay healthy and get things done."
5. What is something unique about you?
"My taste of music is pretty ridiculous. I like everything and I am not afraid to say I'm into that new Katie Perry CD. I also listen to all types of different stuff. I listen to classical as well."
COACH PALMER SAYS: "Busy morning. We had some guys come in and work out. We went over some of our blitzes both offensively and defensively that we're working on. Guys had a good lift over at the Lions Den [training facility]."
ESPN RADIO IN CAMP: The Back Page, the afternoon drive show hosted Jason Page on ESPN Radio 1410, did a remote broadcast from Sage Park during the afternoon practice. Page did live interviews with Coach Palmer, quarterback Josh McCown, and running backs Lorenzo Booker and Andre Dixon.
UP NEXT: On Thursday, the Colonials will have a practice at Sage Park from 9-11 am and then travel to Central Connecticut State University to practice at Arute Field from 5-7 pm. Practices are open to the public with free admission.
