HARTFORD, Conn. - Hartford Athletic, Connecticut's newest professional soccer team, announced today that Founding Partner Stanley Black & Decker will serve as Presenting Partner of the Club's inaugural charity match on September 7th, 2019.
"From our very first meeting with Stanley Black & Decker executives, it was clear that their values align with ours at Hartford Athletic, and that we must use the beautiful game to promote positive change in the Greater Hartford region," said Jordan Charlupski, VP, Revenue & Strategic Initiatives of Hartford Athletic. "Stanley is the perfect partner to help lead this charge, and we are thrilled to have them as a key part of the special day on September 7th as we work together to promote gender equality."
This season's charity match theme is focused on gender equality, and proceeds will benefit Hartford-based nonprofit Girls For Technology which "Empowers the next generation of girls to explore opportunities to become tomorrow's leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math."
"We are honored and humbled to be chosen as the beneficiary of the inaugural charity match. The organization was founded on the belief of creating equity and access for girls and young women of color. We are excited that Stanley Black and Decker & Hartford Athletic are leading the charge for gender equality," said Sabrina Tucker-Barrett, President/CEO of Girls For Technology.
To raise money, Hartford Athletic players will donate a special alternate kit during the match, which will be auctioned afterward. In addition, Hartford Athletic and Stanley Black & Decker will host a charity soccer clinic before the match, available exclusively to girls and women aged 6 and up. "Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of our purpose," said Mike Simpson, Chief Marketing Officer at Stanley Black & Decker. "We're incredibly honored to partner with Hartford Athletic to bring awareness to the gaps in gender equality and the importance of empowering women of all ages. Girls for Technology is a fantastic organization helping to provide young girls with the skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Together, I'm confident that we're heading in the right direction for equality."
Before the match, Hartford Athletic will host a meet and greet with local female business leaders, sports stars, and engineers. Along with proceeds from the weekend, Girls For Technology will receive 100 tickets, courtesy of Stanley Black & Decker. "To have a partner that simply 'gets it' and understands how to positively impact our community through sport was of the utmost importance to us, and to bring together two incredible organizations like Stanley Black & Decker and Girls For Technology is simply why we do what we do as a club" said Charlupski.
