Harrisburg, PA - The Islanders will play their second preseason match TONIGHT as they travel to Millersville University to take on UMBC at 6:00 p.m. ET on Pucillo Field. ALL preseason matches will be free and open to the public.
The City Islanders are coming off of a successful 2014 campaign where they finished as finalists in the 2014 USL Championship, losing to Sacramento Republic FC (2-0).
With a record of 14-12-7 and competing with one of the youngest teams in the league, with an average age of 22 years old, the City Islanders entered the 2014 USL playoffs as a number 8 seed. They then went on to defeat regular season champions, Orlando City in the quarter-finals of the USL playoffs and moved on to defeat number four seed, Richmond Kickers, to move on to the championship match in Sacramento.
Current trialists for the 2015 season and local standouts include former Palmyra High School All-American and Pennsylvania player of the year, Brett Jankouskas.
As well as, a pair of Messiah College stars -- midfielder Jeremy Payne and defender Carter Robbins. Payne, who hails from Middleburg, was a three-time Division III All-American and a two-time D-III player of the year at Messiah.
The Islanders will kick-off the 2015 season on Saturday, March 28 on the road against keystone rival Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The 2015 home opener will take place Saturday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m. (gates open at 5:30 p.m.) at Skyline Sports Complex against FC Montreal. Tickets will be $7 for youth and $12 for adults.
