Frisco RoughRiders News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Missouri - The Frisco RoughRiders lost a 3-0 lead in an eventual 9-4 defeat to the Springfield Cardinals on Thursday night from Hammons Field. Dustin Harris bashed a pair of home runs in the Riders win, his second multi-home run game of the season and the fourth of his career.
The RoughRiders (13-11, 49-44) drew first blood in the first inning when Harris rammed a solo shot over the right-field wall for his 16th homer of the season.
In the second, Frisco scored two more on Springfield (13-9, 44-47) starter Kyle Leahy. Jax Biggers doubled home Jordan Procyshen before Jonathan Ornelas grounded a single up the middle to plate Biggers and extend the Riders lead to 3-0.
That lead held until the fifth when Mike Antico cracked a solo home run against Riders starter Zak Kent to make it 3-1 Frisco. Kent threw five innings, ceding just the one tally while striking out five and walking two.
In the bottom of the sixth, Springfield catcher Julio Rodriguez crushed a game-tying two-run home run off of Tyler Thomas (1-1), who took the defeat for Frisco.
With the game tied at 3-3 entering into the seventh, the Cardinals flexed their muscles. Masyn Winn hit a three-run home run to give Springfield the lead 6-3 before Malcom Nunez ripped a two-run blast and Chandler Redmond went back-to-back with him to increase the lead to 9-3.
In the top of the eighth, Harris answered back to make it 9-4 with an inside-the-park home run to right-center field to give him his second home run on the night and his 17th overall this season.
John Beller (2-0) earned the win for Springfield, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Outside of Harris, Biggers was the only other RoughRiders player with a multi-hit game, collecting a pair of doubles in the defeat.
The Riders continue their six-game series against the Cardinals on Friday, July 29th at 7:05 p.m. from Hammons Field. Frisco will send RHP Tim Brennan (3-3, 3.43) to the hill while Springfield will turn to RHP Connor Lunn (3-5, 6.28).
Frisco returns home next to begin the month of August with a six-game series against the Amarillo Sod Poodles, beginning on August 2nd. For tickets and more information about the Frisco RoughRiders, visit RidersBaseball.com or call 972.731.9200.
