May 17, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Mississippi Braves News Release
GREENVILLE _ Joel Hanrahan continued his dominance of Southern League hitters and enjoyed plenty of offensive support Saturday as the Jacksonville Suns beat the Greenville Braves 9-0.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Hanrahan allowed four hits through six innings as Jacksonville (19-22) beat the G-Braves for the second straight night. Hanrahan (5-1), who was the Los Angeles Dodgers second pick in the 2000 amateur draft, has allowed only two earned runs in his last five starts.
Hanrahan walked three and struck out seven as he lowered his earned-run average to 2.54. On the season, Hanrahan has struck out 54 batters in 47 innings.
The loss was the eighth in nine games for the G-Braves (18-23), who fell behind in the first inning and never recovered. Jason Repko drove the second pitch of the game over the left-field wall, igniting a four-run Jacksonville first inning against Greenville starter Ramon Colon (3-2). The Suns broke the game open with four more runs in the seventh.
Nick Alvarez collected three hits and Derek Michaelis drove in four runs to lead Jacksonville's 12-hit attack.
The series concludes with a 1:15 p.m. game Sunday, when Greenville starter Matt Belisle (1-5) against Jacksonville's Tommy Farmer (2-2) in a game that will feature FamilyFest activities.
