Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Now just two months away from starting its inaugural season, the Bloomington PrairieThunder hockey team has announced its radio voice for the 2006-07 season will be Ed Hammond. Hammond, a central Illinois native, is a news reporter and sports anchor on WMBD-AM radio in Peoria, Ill.

Hammond brings his hockey play-by-play experience to the PrairieThunder, after having called the action for the Peoria Rivermen during the 1993-94 season. In 1985 Hammond did the play-by-play for the IHL Turner Cup Championship Series which the Rivermen played in and won in seven games.

More recently Hammond has lent his broadcast talent as the voice of the Peoria Pirates and Peoria Rough Riders indoor football teams in Peoria, Ill., during their 1999-2005 seasons. During those seasons he called the 2004 AF2 Championship game for the Pirates, as well as the 2002 AF2 Arena Cup Championship and the 2000 IHL Gold Cup Championship.

Additionally, Hammond has done play-by-play in the past for Bradley women's basketball, high school football and basketball, and Illinois Central College men's and women's basketball games. He is still an analyst for Bradley women's basketball on WTVP-TV in Peoria.

"We are very happy to have Ed on board as the voice of PrairieThunder hockey," said PrairieThunder General Manager Jerry McBurney. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will make our broadcasts both entertaining and informative for our fans."

Hammond currently resides in Peoria Heights, Ill., and has two daughters Christy (27) and Karen (22).
