Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, FL - On a day in which nine home runs flew out of Roger Dean Stadium, long balls by Viosergy Rosa, Blake Barber and Matt Juengel were not enough as the Hammerheads were swept by St. Lucie in a doubleheader on Thursday. The Mets took game one 12-7 before finishing the sweep with a 14-7 win in the series finale.

The Mets started the day's scoring with a splash in the top of the first when they scored five times off Jupiter starter Jake Esch, an inning which included a two-run double by Jairo Perez and a two run bomb to left by Cam Maron to begin the home run derby.

St. Lucie would grab another run in the second before the Hammerheads began chipping away in the third thanks to a RBI double by Noah Perio and a run-scoring single by Colin Moran.

As soon as Jupiter had gotten within four runs, the Mets would put up a five spot in the fourth inning highlighted by a two-run homer by Perez who would finish with four RBI in game one.

The Hammerheads would get three runs back in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a pair of homers. Barber went deep first, his fifth of the season, to make it an 11-3 ballgame. Three batters later Juengel would hit a two-run shot for the Sharks.

Jupiter would pick up two more runs in the sixth inning but it was too late for a comeback.

Game two started in almost an identical fashion to the first game as Jupiter starter Charlie Lowell allowed five runs to start the game. He was pulled after just retiring just one batter.

Frankie Reed didn't have much more success as Eudy Pina hit the first pitch he threw for a three-run homer.

The Hammerheads found themselves trailing 8-0 before they could get a chance to bat but they would start digging out of the early hole when Rosa went deep for a two-run shot, his fourth home run of the year and his first since April 25th.

The Mets offense would continue to be relentless scoring four times in the third highlighted by a two-run double by Perez and a triple by Aderlin Rodriguez that drove in a pair.

With the Mets leading 14-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Rosa would hit another homer to left, this one a three run shot, to cut the deficit to a touchdown. But again it was too little too late as Jupiter was swept by the Mets.

Luckily for Jupiter they will have a few days to forget about the losses as the team will begin the All-Star Break on Friday. Trevor Williams, Scott Lyman, Reid Redman and Juengel will all travel to Bradenton to participate in the Florida State League All-Star Game on Saturday.

The Sharks will return to Roger Dean Stadium on Monday for the final three games of the first half, another edition of the Fins vs. Feathers series.
