Hammerheads Set to Play Milestone Game
May 17, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release
Sunday afternoon marks a milestone for the Corpus Christi Hammerheads when the team takes on the Austin Turfcats. Not only will the team be looking to win their fourth straight home game and sweep the season series from the Cats' but the game will mark the franchises first appearance on National TV.
Earlier in the season, Corpus Christi was selected to host one of four national TV broadcasts in the IFL. A lot of factors played into the selection process such as venue, and attendance, but the final push made by team owner and president Chad Dittman secured the honor for the franchise and the city.
"I felt this was a great way to showcase not only our team, but the city of Corpus Christi and the beautiful building we play in", said Dittman. "We hope that people out there take notice of how well the community supports our teams and that maybe this could lead to bigger things as well".
Last year the Rio Grande Valley got an opportunity to host an NBA preseason game and Dittman believes that this could help lead to events like that game and more coming to Corpus Christi. "We certainly hope that the town comes out and shows just how much support there is here in Corpus Christi", Dittman added.
Offensive Coordinator Schuyler Anderson was also looking forward to the game as well. "We have guys that could get some looks during this game and maybe get a chance to move up to a higher level", said Anderson. "It's a huge opportunity", he added.
Sunday's game will be carried on the America One Network. Dittman was confident that it would also air on the Altitude Channel which is available on both Direct TV and Dish Network. Former New York Giant and two time Superbowl Champion Gary Reasons will be doing color for the game alongside Hammerheads play by play man and ESPN Corpus Christi personality Scott Howe. "I'm looking forward to working with Gary Sunday and being part of this very special event", said Howe.
Kickoff at the American Bank Center is set for 4:05pm. Hammerheads tickets start at just $7 and are available at the American Bank Center Box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com, or by calling the Hammerheads at (361)814-PASS(7277).
