Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release
Corpus Christi, TX - The Corpus Christi Hammerheads (5-4) finally return to action Saturday when they head to Lake Charles, LA to take on the Louisiana Swashbucklers (8-2).
The last time the Hammerheads were in action was May 9th when they defeated the Rio Grande Valley Magic. The 19-day layoff was due to both the Mobile Bay Tarpons and the Lafayette Wildcatters not being able to finish the season.
"It's good and bad", said Hammerheads Head Coach Dustin Almond. "It gives you an opportunity to get healthy and work on a number of things but at the same time your not playing week to week and your game speed slows".
With a win Saturday night, the Hammerheads can clinch a berth in the 2011 SIFL postseason. More importantly, if the Hammerheads win their remaining three regular season games they would clinch the second seed and guarantee a home playoff game. "We have our destiny in our own hands", said Special Team Coordinator A.C. Williams, "Now we need to go take of business on the field".
The team did get some disappointing news learning the WR Cory Brittian would be lost for the remainder of the year with a shoulder separation. Britain was leading the team in all receiving categories and second in Scoring and All Purpose Yards. "It's a tough loss but we have a number of talented guys that can step up and fill the void", said Almond.
Kickoff in Lake Charles is set for 7:00pm. The game can be heard locally on Sports Radio Corpus Christi, 1230AM beginning at 6:40pm.
The Hammerheads return to the American Bank Center on Sunday June 5th to take on the Louisiana Swashbucklers. Kickoff is set for 4:05pm.
