Swashbucklers to Face Hammerheads

LAKE CHARLES LA. - The Louisiana Swashbucklers will renew a rivalry Saturday when the team hosts the Corpus Christi Hammerheads. The Bucs and Hammerheads were former members of the now-defunct Intense Football League. In that time, two of the three championships won by Louisiana were against Corpus Christi in 2007 and ‚¬â„¢08. Corpus Christi joined the Southern Indoor Football League for 2011.

The Bucs have won the SIFL Gulf Coast Division title at 8-2. The Hammerheads are 5-4 on the season and still in the hunt for a playoff spot. This will be the first game they have played since May 9th when the team defeated the Rio Grande Valley Magic 44-36. Louisiana defeated the Abilene Ruff Riders 64-50 one week ago.

Corpus Christi found out earlier this week wide receiver Cory Brittain has been lost for the season due to a shoulder separation. He led in all receiving categories for the Hammerheads and was second in scoring and all purpose yards. Head coach Dustin Almond will be looking to his receiver corps and quarterback Anthony Andre to fill the void.

Swashbucklers head coach Darnell Lee comes into the game with Ben McLaughlin as one of the hottest quarterbacks in the league. For the season to date, McLaughlin has a tally of 1,586 yards passing with 38 touchdowns. He only has five interceptions and 132 completed passes out of 203 attempts. He threw for a total of 259 yards and seven TDs against Abilene.

The game will also be the annual Freedom Fighter ‚¬â„¢s salute to all military active personnel and veterans, local police, firefighters and first responders. Called Guns ‚¬ËœN Hoses, it is a very moving and excellent tribute to all these dedicated people who keep us safe.
