Hammerheads Recieve IFL Honors
March 17, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release
Corpus Christi Hammerheads Owner and President Chad Dittman announced today that the IFL Franchise has received two very big IFL League Honors today.
Hammerheads Defensive Back Jason Lee received the IFL Defensive Player of the Week Award after a stellar game Sunday against the Austin Turfcats. Lee, (6' 0", 190 Texas A&M Kingsville) had 7 tackles, 2 Forced Fumbles, a Fumble Recovery (Returned 50 yards for TD) and 1 INT in the team's 51-36 victory on Sunday afternoon. Lee is a big cog in what has been one of the top defenses in the league thus far in the 2010 season.
"Jason is a guy that just goes out there and plays hard each and every week, has a great nose for the ball, and just flat out makes plays", said Hammerheads Head Coach Stephen Fillmore. "He certainly deserves the recognition from the league".
In addition to the individual honor, the Hammerheads also received league recognition by being one of four IFL teams to be selected to host a nationally televised game in 2010.
The Hammerheads home game on May 23rd against the Austin Turfcats will be broadcast on One World Sports, the sports branch of America One Network. Scott Howe, who is the Hammerheads play-by-play voice on ESPN Corpus Christi radio, along with two-time Superbowl Champion and former New York Giant Linebacker Gary Reasons will have the call for the television network.
"Everyone in the organization is excited that we were one of the teams selected to host a nationally televised game", said Dittman. "It gives us a great opportunity to not only showcase our team, but also, showcase the city of Corpus Christi in front of a national TV audience", Dittman added.
The Hammerheads conclude their three game home stand to begin the 2010 season this Sunday at the American Bank Center against the West Texas Roughnecks. The team is offering all balcony seats for only $5. Tickets are available at the American Bank Center box office or by calling the Hammerheads at 814-PASS (7277).
