
Hammerheads outlast rain delay, not Manatees

JUPITER, FL- The Brevard County Manatees outlasted the Jupiter Hammerheads this evening at Roger Dean Stadium by a score of 9-5 after a three hour and five minute rain delay. The game was a continuation of last night's game that was suspended due to inclement weather. The Manatees hit two key three-run home runs off of Hammerheads starter Graham Taylor to earn their fourth victory of the second half of the season. Lorenzo Cain homered in the second inning and finished the game three for five with three RBI and two runs scored. Charlie Fermaint homered in the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie. He finished the game two for four with three RBI and two runs scored.
The Hammerheads were productive offensively, compiling nine hits on the evening. Outfielder Scott Cousins finished two for three with a home run. It was his third of the season. Smelin Perez continues to hit the ball well and ended up three for five. 2008 Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star Logan Morrison was three for four with an RBI and a run scored, which helped raise his batting average to .326.
The teams will conclude their three game series with a double header tomorrow at Roger Dean Stadium. The first game is scheduled for 4:05 PM, with the second game beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. After tomorrow's double header, a huge firework show is scheduled to kick off the Fourth of July celebration.
