Hammerhead Release WR Nate Dunn

March 16, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release

Corpus Christi Hammerheads Owner and President Chad Dittman announced today that the IFL Franchise has released wide receiver Nate Dunn for violating team rules regarding off field behavior.

After conducting an internal investigation regarding the incident involving a former Hammerhead player as well as current Hammerhead player Joe Small, it was discovered that Dunn was not only present, but, attempted to cover up his involvement in the incident that led to 4 persons being injured including Small Sunday night. The team did not comment on Dunn's level of involvement.

Dunn, who has been with the team for the past 5 seasons, has had a number of other disciplinary issues mostly involving team rules regarding football related issues. The incident Sunday night was the last straw with both the coaching and front office staff.

"Nate is a talented player, but talent is never going to weigh heavier then how one of my players conducts himself off the field as an ambassador for the franchise", said Head Coach Stephen Fillmore. "Players must conduct themselves as professionals both on and off the field or they will not be playing for me".

Hammerheads Offensive Coordinator Schuyler Anderson added to Fillmore sentiments saying, "We cut ties with a few other players from last year that could not conduct themselves off the field in a manner we demand and will continue to do so with anyone who acts in way that puts the team in a bad light".

"Our organization has high standards regarding how our players and staff act both on and off the field", said Dittman. "We pride ourselves in the amount of community involvement we participate in and expect our players to be positive examples in our community. We will not tolerate any player or staff member that does not adhere to these standards and this release is an example of how serious we are about that policy".
