Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI - The Hamilton Bulldogs concluded their three-game road trip by defeating the Milwaukee Admirals 4-3 in a shootout final at the Bradley Centre on Saturday night. Gavin Morgan and James Sanford scored in the shootout to give Hamilton the victory. The Bulldogs earned five of a possible six points on their three-game road trip.
For the twelfth time in the past 13 games the Bulldogs opened the scoring. Rookie forward Andrei Kostitsyn earned his seventh goal of the year on an individual effort at 3:13 of the first period.
The Admirals evened the score at the 17:37 mark of the first period. Forward Bryan Lundbohm converted a Greg Zanon centering pass and fired the puck into the Bulldogs goal. Jerred Smithson earned the other assist on the play.
The Bulldogs went ahead 2-1 with just 1:26 remaining in the second period. Steve Ott took a Jason Ward pass and one-timed a shot past Admirals goaltender Brian Finley.
However, just 35 seconds later the Admirals tied the score 2-2. Milton, Ontario native Darren Haydar scored his 16th goal of the season. Simon Gamache added an assist on the goal.
The Bulldogs would then regain at the beginning of the third period. And for the third consecutive game, Gavin Morgan scored for Hamilton. Morgan earned a shorthanded goal, which was unassisted, at 1:45 of the third period.
For the third time in the game, Milwaukee would even the score. Veteran forward Tony Hrkac tallied his eighth goal of the season at 14:54.
After overtime did not solve anything, the game went into a shootout. The Admirals Simon Gamache scored the first goal of the shootout. However, that would be the only shootout goal for the Admirals. Gavin Morgan and James Sanford would each score in the shootout to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 victory.
In goal, Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis picked up his twelfth win of the season by making 40 saves. Danis' victory was also his first in a shootout. Brian Finley stopped 28 shots and suffered the loss for the Admirals.
The Bulldogs, who have earned 45 points in 45 games, now trail the Edmonton Road Runners by just five points for the fourth playoff position in the AHL's North Division. Edmonton has two games in hand, as they have played just 43 contests.
The Hamilton Bulldogs next action will take place on Wednesday, January 26th when they host the Rochester Americans at Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Bulldogs fans can purchase their tickets at the Copps Coliseum Box Office, at all Ticketmaster outlets, by calling Ticketmaster at (905) 527-7666 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca.
