Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Quincy Hamilton cracked a base hit to right-center chasing C.J. Stubbs home in the ninth inning Tuesday night as the Hooks pulled off a 3-2 win over San Antonio in the series opener at Whataburger Field.
Stubbs began the rally with a single through the left side and was pushed into scoring position by a sac bunt from Jeremy Arocho. Lead-off hitter Tommy Sacco Jr. was then walked intentionally, setting the stage for Hamilton.
With the Hooks down, 2-1, in the seventh. Kenedy Corona reached via an infield single to open the inning before advancing on a balk and stolen base. Four batters later, Arocho sent a knock into right on an 0-2 pitch, bringing Corona home from third to tie the game at two.
On a night when he received his 2023 Rawlings MiLB Gold Glove, Corona earned his way aboard three times via two singles and a free pass.
The Hooks started the scoring with a first-inning marker as Sacco served a lead-off double down the left-field line. He scored thanks to a groundout from Hamilton and a sac fly off the bat of Colin Barber.
Corpus Christi southpaw Julio Robaina, who dispatched nine of the first 11 Missions, struck out eight in a four-inning start, scattering four hits and two walks.
Luis Angel Rodriguez fired four innings of one-run ball to notch his first Double-A win. Rodriguez breezed four and retired five in a row to finish the game. The lefty from Veracruz stranded five, including four with runners in scoring position.
