Hamilton Bulldogs News Release


The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will compete in three match-ups this week. On Friday, February 20th the 'Dogs will take on their archrivals the Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) at 7:00 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum. Hamilton will play host to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins) on Saturday, February 21st at 7:00 p.m. To wrap up the week the Bulldogs will face off against the Syracuse Crunch (AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets) at 4:00 p.m. at Copps Coliseum on Sunday, February 22nd.

The Bulldogs went 3-1-0-0 on the road this week, bringing their record to 33-20-2-0. The 'Dogs started their week with a 4-2 victory over the Hershey Bears on February, 11th at GIANT center. Hamilton extended their winning streak to four games on Friday, February 13th, shutting out the Norfolk Admirals 2-0 at Norfolk Scope. On Saturday, February 14th the Bulldogs had their winning streak snapped, suffering a 3-2 defeat to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Wachovia Arena. Last night the Bulldogs traveled to the Wachovia Center and earned a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phantoms.

- On Tuesday, February 10th Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Julien BriseBois announced that the club has signed left wing Ryan Kinasewich to a Professional Tryout (P.T.O.) contract

- On Friday, February 13th Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced that forward Kyle Chipchura has been recalled to the Canadiens from the Hamilton Bulldogs

- Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Julien BriseBois announced on Friday, February 13th that the club has signed left wing Steve Gainey to an American Hockey League contract for the remainder of the 2008-2009 season

- Bulldog G Marc Denis earned another shutout in Wednesday's game against Norfolk, his second in less than a week. He now has five shutouts this season and only needs one to tie the most shutouts by a Bulldogs goaltender in one season (6 -Jaroslav Halak, 2006-2007)

- Hamilton C Ben Maxwell is currently on a four game point streak that started February, 11th and has seen him a earn total of four points (one goal, three assists)

ALUMNI WATCH:

There are currently over 40 former Bulldogs in the NHL at this time. Over 60 percent of the players on Hamilton's all-time roster have played in a minimum of one NHL game. Three former Bulldogs head or assistant coaches (Doug Jarvis, Claude Julien, and Geoff Ward) are currently in a coaching capacity in the NHL. Here are a few highlights and accomplishments of ex-'Dogs from this past week:

- Montreal LW Andrei Kostitsyn picked up two points this week scoring the game winning goal in a 4-2 victory over Colorado (Feb. 13), and a goal in a 4-2 losing effort to Vancouver (Feb. 15)

- Edmonton C Shawn Horcoff earned three points this week with two assists in a 7-2 win over Montreal (Feb. 11), and a marker in a 3-2 shootout victory over Los Angeles (Feb. 14)

- Atlanta D Ron Hainsey picked up three points this week with one assist in a 3-1 loss to Chicago (Feb. 11), and two more assists in an 8-4 victory over Anaheim (Feb. 15)

- Columbus LW Jason Chimera earned two points this week with an assist in a 3-0 win to Colorado (Feb. 10), and a goal in a 3-2 victory over Detroit (Feb. 13)

BULLDOUGS FOUNDATION: Ryan White was named as the Community Player of the Month for January. Throughout January, Ryan dedicated his time in support of various Bulldogs Foundation sponsored events. Despite his commitment to training and his hard work on the ice, Ryan managed to find time in his schedule to give back to the community by visiting schools in an effort to encourage and inspire youth throughout Hamilton.
