Here is a look at some of the community events that the Hamilton Bulldogs and Bulldogs Foundation have been involved with recently.
Dawgs Breakfast
UPDATE: American Iron Metals has donated over $4,000 to the 'Dawgs Breakfast Program in lieu of giving Christmas gifts to customers and clients this year.
The Hamilton Bulldogs and Bulldogs Foundation in conjunction with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board announced on November 30th the launch of the Dawgs Breakfast Program. The program will provide breakfast to over 2,000 students who attend Barton Secondary School, Bennetto Elementary School and Parkview Secondary School. With support from The Grocery Foundation and Quaker, a Divison of PepsiCo Foods Canada, the Bulldogs Foundation is committing $225,000 in cash or kind to the program over the next three years. On November 30th at a press conference held at Bennetto Elementary School, The Bulldogs Foundation presented a $10,000 cheque to each of the three schools to begin the program.
Bulldogs and Hamilton Police Team Up
The Hamilton Bulldogs and Hamilton Police Services will be teaming up to raise funds in support of St. Joseph's Healthcare System and the Around the Bay Race at the 'Dogs home game versus the Toronto Marlies on Saturday, March 5th at 4:00 p.m. at Copps Coliseum. Proceeds raised by Hamilton Police Services from this event will go towards reaching the Police Service's $10,000 goal for St. Joseph's Healthcare System through the Around the Bay Road Race. Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum Shootout
Throughout the season 10 fans are qualified for a chance to win a trip for two to Montreal to see the Montreal Canadiens play at Bell Centre by participating in the Appleton Jamaica Rum Last Fan Standing events at Bulldogs home games. Those 10 fans will be contestants for the PMA Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum Shootout which will take place on Saturday, March 5th. Peter " The Wall" Mielzynski, President of PMA, went 1-on-1 against 10 Bulldogs players in a shootout that was videotaped and will be shown to the 10 contestants during the second intermission of Saturday's game. Each contestant will be assigned a number from 1-to-10 and the fan that has the corresponding number to how many save Peter makes on the Bulldogs, will win the trip to Montreal.
Players Out and About
Hamilton Bulldogs players Hunter Bishop and Aaron Palushaj as well as Bruiser attended St. Timothy Catholic School in Burling to speak to the kids about the importance of literacy and education. Aaron and Hunter spoke about going to college and how much a role of literacy and proper education has played in their life and also read " The Hockey Sweater" to the students.
Bulldogs defenceman David Urquhart and forward Hunter Bishop will be going to Caledonia Centennial Public School on Tuesday, March 8th to read to the students and sign autographs.
Schedule of Bruiser Community Appearances for March
Tuesday, March 1st
¬" Bruiser made a special trip to McMaster Children's Hospital to help cheer up young children. Bruiser delivered some Bulldogs autographed memorabilia, gave out hugs and high-fives and di some dancing to bring love and laughter into the Children's ward. The kids were all smiles as soon as they saw the big Bulldogs burst through the hospital doors.
Thursday, March 3rd ¬" Bruiser wasn't the only 'hot dog' in town as he attended The Hamilton Police Services Running Team's BBQ fundraiser in support of St. Joseph's Hospital. This great charity event took place at the Central Police Station and almost the entire Hamilton Police force came out to show their support. The Hamilton Police Services Running Team will also be participating in the annual Around the Bay Road Race.
Sunday, March 6th ¬" Bruiser won't be the only celebrity at the City of Hamilton's Battery Recycling Community BBQ on Sunday. Fans are invited to join Guy Lafleur and a team of NHL Legends including Theoren Fleury, Bryan Trottier, Glenn Anderson and Billy Smith as the City of Hamilton, the Hamilton Bulldogs and Call2Recycle celebrates the success of their battery recycling program. This FREE community BBQ takes place at Hamilton Fire Station #5 at the corner of Upper Ottawa and Limeridge Rd. from 1 p.m. ¬" 2:30 p.m.
Monday ¬" March 7th ¬" Bruiser will be visiting Chedoke Public School as they are participating in a school fundraiser and will be attending the Bulldogs last regular season home game on Saturday, April 2nd. Bruiser can't wait to see all his friends at Chedoke Public School and hopes that they all help him cheer on the 'Dogs when they come to see them take on the Manitoba Moose.
The 'Dogs will battle the Toronto Marlies in the first of back-to-back games on Saturday, March 5th for a 4:00 p.m. game at Copps Coliseum. The teams will then travel to Toronto for a 1:00 p.m. game on Sunday, March 6th at Ricoh Coliseum. Sunday's game can be seen live on CBC. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
