BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - The Bloomington Thunder begin their road trip to Omaha, NE with good news. Goaltender Logan Halladay (Merrimack College) has committed to Merrimack College and becomes the 18th player on the Thunder with a college commitment. The goalie made his announcement Thursday afternoon saying,

"Proud to announce my commitment to play D1 hockey at Merrimack College. Thanks to everyone that has helped me along the way! ?#Warriors," via Twitter from @LogyHallo.

"I'm excited to be a part of a program that is on the rise and to be going somewhere that is going to give me the best opportunity to succeed inside and outside of hockey," said Halladay about the commitment to Merrimack.

Halladay, 19, is in his second United States Hockey League season with the Thunder. The native of Cary, NC has played in 5-6-3-0 this season with two shutouts and the sixth best goals against average in the league. He also held the longest shutout streak in team history of over 165 minutes dating from December 12th to January 8th.

"I think committing to Merrimack was an easy decision for me," said Halladay on his future school. "They offer the best of both worlds academically and athletically. From the time I was on campus it felt like home to me, and it was a place I could definitely see myself going to school.

"The culture that the students and coaching staff have built over the past couple seasons only made me more certain that it was the right place for me," continued Halladay.

During his first season with the team, Halladay backstopped the team to a 13-11-5 record playing half the games in the season. Bloomington signed the goaltender to an expansion tender in the wake of the 2014-15 inaugural season. The second player in Thunder history was also the first to spend time with an NHL team. Halladay suited up at the Carolina Hurricanes Prospects Camp on an invitation before the Thunder's inaugural season opened.

Playing in the North American Hockey League for the Janesville Jets, Halladay grabbed 18 wins and two shutouts for the Jets in 2013-14. The goalie was a Phase-I pick by the Waterloo Black Hawks while playing for the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes. Standing at 5-foot-11, Halladay made his USHL debut with the Hawks at the start of the 2012-13 season.

Halladay will join Ethan Spaxman (Merrimack College) at the Boston suburb college following his USHL career. The NCAA Division-I School will reunite the former Thunder teammates for the first time since November of 2014.

NEXT HOME GAME: Friday, February 12th - 7 p.m. - The Thunder battle with the Green Bay Gamblers to open a weekend series from the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Doors open at 6 p.m. and until puck drop there are $1 draft beers and soft drinks at the Coliseum concession stands. Tickets start at $10 for the game and could go even lower with youth, senior, and military discounts. Call the Thunder office at (309) 434-2980 for more information and the best deals on tickets.
