Lancaster Stormers News Release

Josh Hall spun eight shutout innings, lifting Lancaster to a 3-0 victory over the York Revolution Thursday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Hall (4-1) allowed six hits while walking two and striking out one as the Barnstormers jumped one game ahead of York in the chase for third place in the Freedom Division's first half. Only one York runner reached third base in the contest. The Barnstormers right-hander retired 13 batters on ground balls during the game.

With the win, the Barnstormers move one game ahead of York for third place in the Freedom Division and take a 5-2 lead in the 2008 War of the Roses series.

York's only extra-base hit in the game was a two-out double by Jason Aspito in the eighth. Hall could have been in deep trouble in the inning had Kevin Kotch not gunned down Chris Ashby at second on a steal attempt just prior to Aspito's two-bagger into the left field corner.

Manny Mejia gave the Barnstormers a 1-0 lead in the second with a booming home run to left field, his sixth of the season. Lancaster did not produce anything else against Aaron Rakers (4-6) until the sixth, when Kotch homered off the net in right center for a 2-0 lead.

In the seventh, the Barnstormers loaded the bases with no one out. Matt LeCroy walked to start the inning. Mejia followed with a looper up the middle that glanced off the glove of Jose Enrique Cruz. With LeCroy ducking back into first base, Cruz picked up the loose ball in shallow left field and tried to get a force out at second base but threw wildly, allowing LeCroy to advance. Lloyd Turner followed with a bunt single to load the bases.

Rakers struck out Jutt Hileman and Kotch in succession, but gave up an RBI single to center on a 1-1 pitch to Jordan Herr as Lancaster built the 3-0 lead.

Hall gave way to Ryan Cullen, who worked a perfect ninth for his third save.
