Atlético Ottawa's winning streak came to an end on Sunday as the rescheduled fixture against Halifax Wanderers ended in a narrow defeat. Ottawa returns to the nation's capital next week with an opportunity to make it five consecutive victories at TD Place with a match against Cavalry FC.
KEY MOMENTS
Atlético Ottawa slipped to 5th place in the Canadian Premier League table having lost 1-0 in Halifax.
The hosts took the lead in the 26th minute through Théo Collomb.
Rubén del Campo and Ollie Bassett both came close to levelling the score in the first period.
Karl Ouimette had a late chance to equalize, but the veteran defender's effort from close range was placed narrowly wide of the post.
Zach Verhoven came off the bench to provide an attacking spark for Atlético Ottawa, although an injury to Miguel Acosta saw the 24-year-old play deeper than expected.
Verhoven led Ottawa in dribbles (8), successful dribbles (5), total duels (13) and duels (6) won in 28 minutes on the pitch.
This was Halifax Wanderer's fifth consecutive victory at home, leapfrogging Atleti into 4th place.
Doneil Henry, Canadian Men's National Team defender, made his debut for the Wanderers coming on as a late substitute in the second half.
The match was due to be played on Saturday, July 22, 2023, but was postponed by a day due to adverse weather conditions in Nova Scotia.
Atlético Ottawa returns to the nation's capital on Saturday, July 29, 2023, against Cavalry FC.
