Halifax Squeaks by Brampton to Earn Third Straight Victory

February 6, 2015 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) - Halifax Rainmen News Release

The Halifax Rainmen earned their third straight victory Friday evening with a hard fought 102-101 victory over the Brampton A's. With the win the Rainmen improve to 13-12 on the season with only seven games remaining in the NBL Canada regular season.

Halifax played a strong opening frame, going up on Brampton by as many as 16 in the late stages of the first, eventually finishing the quarter with a 33-21 lead. The opening 12 minutes also featured some rough on the court play and several post whistle interactions, which would become a theme throughout the rest of the game. Brampton came out quickly in the second quarter, closing in on the Rainmen's lead and finishing the half down by 5, 48-43. The game continued to be close in the third, however Halifax's defensive pressure caused several key turnovers and allowed them to finish the quarter up 76-69. The fourth quarter would see multiple lead changes from the teams with Halifax pulling ahead in the dying moments of the game. A late Brampton charge would come up short and the Rainmen would send their fans home happy with the one point victory.

Kevin Young led the Rainmen with a double double, 20 points and 11 rebounds. Christopher Cayole and Joey Haywood also contributed 18 points each to the winning effort. The Brampton A's saw Akeem Scott lead the team with 24 points on the evening. Nova Scotia's own Bryson Johnson had 16 points for the A's. Thomas Granado was the top rebounder for the A's with 9.

The Halifax Rainmen return to the Scotiabank Centre for a 2pm match against defending NBL Canada Champions, The Windsor Express. Make sure you catch Windsor's only regular season visit to Halifax this Sunday and get a potential preview of the NBL Canada Finals! Tickets are still available at the Scotiabank Centre Box Office, through Ticket Atlantic, or by visiting
