Big Weekend for Island Storm and Fans

February 6, 2015 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Island Storm News Release

(Charlottetown, PE) After a couple of weeks of stormy PEI weather and 12 days of no Island STORM home basketball at Eastlink Centre, Saturdays STORM game against the Moncton Miracles is turning into quite an event filled day and just in time for STORM Fans to beat the cabin fever they might have experienced over the past couple of weeks due to weather.

Saturday at Eastlink Centre starts with a high school girls basketball game at 3:30pm as the Moncton High Girls team travel to Charlottetown to take on the Col Gray Girls AA team. The Moncton team is coached by Courtney Donovan who works in the front office of the Miracles.

The Island STORM hit the court against Moncton for a 7 o'clock start, which is the start of a home and home with the two teams as the STORM head to Moncton Sunday for a 2pm starter.

Saturday night's game at Eastlink Centre is Teacher Appreciation Night as Island teachers, administrators, and teacher assistants have been invited to the game for free after coupons were sent to schools this week. Teachers must present their coupon and school ID at the box office.

Saturday night is also Hospice PEI night at the game. Through the STORMs partnership with Arsenault, Best, Cameron, and Ellis Chartered Accountants, Hospice PEI received 100 tickets to the game which they sold as a fundraising event for the group. Representatives of Hospice PEI will be in the Eastlink Centre lobby before the game with information and they will be part of the National Anthem and Ceremonial Tip-off before the game.

Saturday at halftime also starts the quarterfinals of the Cavendish Beach Music Festival-Island STORM Island Idol competition. Following three months of competition at STORM games, Island Idol has been cut down to eight competitors and the first two will compete at halftime Saturday. The two competitors include David Woodside and Kenzie Whalen. Each will sing one song at halftime of our STORM game with fans voting to see who will go on to the semi-finals. The eventual winner of the competition receives an opportunity to perform during the Cavendish Beach Music Festival coming up this July. The other competitors and the dates they will be performing include:

Mon Feb 16 at 2pm - Taylor Sonier/Kendal Paugh and Kyle Sherren

Thurs Feb 19 at 7pm - Bridgette Blanchard and Darcy Ellis

Sun Feb 22 at 2pm - Marshall MacIsaac and Breakwater

As we like to say on Prince Edward Island "IT'S GONNA BE A TIME" so head to Eastlink Centre Saturday for Col Gray High School vs Moncton High School at 3:30 and then the Atlantic Division leading Island STORM against the Moncton Miracles at 7pm"‹.
