Texas Legends News Release
ERIE, PA, (Feb. 19, 2014) - The Texas Legends, presented by Veracruz (visit Veracruz.mx), came back from a 21-point deficit to tie up the game with seconds left before allowing the final shot from the Bayhawks who grabbed the victory 116-114.
The Legends got off to a hot start, going up 8-0 in the first minutes of the game. Erie, in turn, went on a quick 16-point run to take control. Texas struggled to come back, but found themselves down 24-32 at the end of the first. The second quarter saw Erie hold their advantage, outscoring the Legends again 31-37 and going into halftime up 55-69. PJ Hairston and Mickey McConnell combined for 17 points in the third to cut the Erie lead to seven going into the final minutes. Erie led by as many as 21 on the night, but the fourth quarter was a new story.
With 5:30 to play the Legends had the ball and the chance to tie or take the lead. The Legends' missed opportunity was cashed in by Micah Downs from beyond the arc to go back up by five. Booker Woodfox answered with one of his own from long distance and the back-and-forth began. Down by four, the Legends hit both free throws with just over three minutes to play. The Bayhawks countered with two points of their own, but the Legends went back down the court and handed off to Woodfox who hit his fifth triple of the night. McConnell tied the game up for the first time all night with 11.5 seconds on the clock, but Lewis Jackson's hot hands knocked one down capturing the victory as the last 1.5 seconds drained.
Hairston led the Legends with 21 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist while McConnell added 20 points, 3 rebounds and 8 assists. Woodfox came off the bench to add 19 points for Texas, going 5-8 from long distance. Scott Suggs had a game-high 30 points and 8 threes while Jackson grabbed the game's only double-double of 18 points and 11 assists.
The Legends will travel to Delaware on Friday to take on the 87ers before traveling to Canton on Saturday for a matchup with the Charge. Both games will take place at 6pm CT and will be broadcast live on www.TexLegends.com.
