Erie, Pennsylvania, Wednesday, February 19 - In their first action following the all-star break, the Erie BayHawks hosted the Texas Legends on Wednesday night. The BayHawks led by as many as 21 points before Texas clawed back into the game late in the fourth. A Lewis Jackson jumpshot with 1.5 seconds remaining gave Erie their third consecutive last second home win, 116-114.
After falling behind 8-0 to start the game, the BayHawks (11-22) went on a 17-2 run, including three three-pointers from Scott Suggs to put them ahead 23-18. The BayHawks extended their lead to 32-24 after the first frame. Erie grew their lead to 21 points in the second quarter with a 20-3 run during the stanza. At the break, the BayHawks held a 69-55 lead, their largest scoring output in a half this season.
The Legends cut Erie's lead to seven points after the third quarter thanks to ten points from P.J. Hairston in the frame. Texas continued to cut into Erie's lead and tied the game with 11.5 seconds remaining. Erie drew up the final play for Jackson and the point guard came through for another game-winner as he buried a 20 foot jumper with 1.5 seconds left. The Legends' heave at the buzzer came up short and the BayHawks won by a final score of 116-114.
Erie's 16 three-point conversions equaled a franchise record and the eight three-point makes by Suggs set a new team record for the BayHawks.
Suggs led all scorers with a season-high 30 points and nine rebounds. Ricky Davis scored 22 points while Jackson finished with 18 points and 11 assists. Newcomer Solomon Jones scored eight points and grabbed 17 rebounds for Erie in his home debut. Hairston paced Texas with 21 points off the bench. Mickey McConnell (20), Booker Woodfox (19) and Ricky Ledo (17) pitched in with double digit scoring efforts for the Legends.
Erie travels to Canton for a game against the Charge on Friday night while Texas heads to Delaware to face the 87ers on Friday. The BayHawks return home on Saturday night to face Delaware for Knicks Affiliate Night, featuring the Knicks Air Elite Dunk Team.
