San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, TX - Colts rightfielder Adam Hale went 2-4 with a homer, single and six RBI to lead the Colts to a 7-5 win over the Coastal Bend Thunder on Friday night at Foster Field. Hale, who had been mired in a 2-30 slump earlier in the week which saw his batting average dip to .239, has surged back over the last five games to go 7-13.
The Thunder got things rolling in the first inning by scoring four runs off of four walks from San Angelo starter Alex Morales. The first run of the game scored on a double-play ball that gave Coastal Bend a 1-0 lead. But after a couple of walks by Morales loaded the bases for the Thunder, shortstop Albert Gonzalez stepped up and cleared the bases with a double to left-center to make the score 4-0.
San Angelo cut the lead in half in the third on a two-run single by Hale to make it 4-2. But Adam saved his biggest hit for the seventh when he towered a grandslam (4) over the rightfield wall to turn a two-run deficit in to a 6-4 Colts' lead.
Catcher Tyler Goodro (1) followed up Hale's blast with a solo shot of his own two batters later to increase the Colts' lead to three. But the Thunder would come back in the eighth with a solo homerun by first baseman and former Colt Brian Nichols (7) to make the score 7-5.
The Thunder would then load the bases in the ninth with one out, but closer Mike Hacker got second baseman Ron Fenwick to strikeout and third baseman Leivi Ventura to ground out the short to end the game.
Tristan Gaines (1-1) got the win in relief for the Colts by allowing only one earned run in three innings of work. Starter Alex Morales also pitched well for San Angelo after a difficult first inning, allowing only one hit and no runs over his final four frames. Reliever Jared Sutton (0-2) suffered the loss for Coastal Bend, allowing two homers and four earned runs in two innings. Starter, and another former Colt, Frank James had a good start go to waste after allowing six hits and three runs over six innings. The Colts will go for the sweep of their four-game series against the Thunder tomorrow beginning at 7:05. Chandler Barnard (1-1, 6.36 ERA) will go for San Angelo against Ryan Foss (1-2, 4.15 ERA) of the Thunder. Tomorrow is also T-Shirt Night courtesy of First Community Bank and Bring Home the W presented by Whataburger. The game can be heard on 1260 KKSA with the Kemps Pregame Show getting things started at 6:50.
