TOUGH DAY FOR BULLPEN IN 7-3 LOSS: Hagerstown's bullpen unraveled to allow six runs in a 7-3 loss to the Delmarva Shorebirds at Municipal Stadium Sunday afternoon. The culmination of the group's struggles came in the eighth inning with Chandler Day (BS, L, 2-2) on the bump. The Vanderbilt-product allowed four singles in five batters starting with one out in the frame to move the Shorebirds from behind 3-2 to in front 5-3. The next batter, Cadyn Grenier smoked a ball over the right field wall to push Delmarva (57-23, 9-2) in front 7-3. The Suns (33-48, 3-8) dropped the game after receiving an incredible start from Jake Irvin. Irvin got the no decision after outdueling Drew Rom through five innings. The righty allowed just one run off four hits, while fanning a career-high-tying eight batters.

CLIPPING CLUFF: The Washington Nationals' sixth-round draft pick, Jackson Cluff has made an immediate impact with the Hagerstown Suns. He has played in 10 of the Suns 11 games in the second half and has reached base safely in nine. The middle infielder owns a .415 on-base percentage through his first 38 plate appearances in the South Atlantic League.

KEEP COOL LIKE CONNELL: Justin Connell has been seeing the ball well in the second half. After his second four-hit performance of the season Friday, the outfielder went 1-for-2 as the left fielder yesterday afternoon to make him 7-for-11 in this series and 19-for-44 (.432) against the Shorebirds this season.

SHUFFLING THE SHOES: Today, RHP Joan Adon and infielder Drew Mendoza were activated and placed on the Hagerstown Suns active roster. In corresponding moves, both RHP Francys Peguero and INF Trey Vickers were both placed on the injured list. This season the Suns have made 46 roster moves.

TAP THE PEN: Ryan Tapani has bounced between starting and coming from the pen this season. The righty has now played in 16 games and started five on the bump--matching last season's total. The Creighton-product spun 4.1 innings of scoreless relief last night, setting down four via the strikeout while allowing just two hits. The 4.1 innings pitched is the longest relief outing for a Suns pitcher this season.

DIVISIONAL WOES: This season the Suns have struggled against the Northern Division, posting a 19-37 record against teams in the division. They're currently 2-7 against the Grasshoppers, 5-10 against the Shorbirds, 0-4 against the Power and 5-10 against the BlueClaws.

HOLES IN THE BATS: In the first four games of this homestand, the Suns are 26-for-126 (.206) and just 7-for-39 (.179) with runners in scoring position. To compound those troubles, the Suns have had just three extra-base hits in the last four games.

HOWELL-ING IN THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER: After pitching 8.1 scoreless frames through five appearances to begin his season, Jacob Howell has now allowed at least one earned run in each of his last four games. Yesterday he gave up a season high four runs across just one inning while giving up five hits. His ERA now sits at 5.02.
