Hagerstown Suns News Release

After starting the season 0-2, the Suns are itching to get into the win column tonight against Greensboro at 7:00 p.m. at First National Bank Field. Patrick Anderson will send RHP Jake Irvin (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to the hill to face Greenboro's RHP Alex Manasa (0-0, 0.00).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Offense Silenced in Loss to Greensboro: Despite an excellent start from Tim Cate, where he gave up no earned runs and wrung up seven over the course of 4.2 innings, the offense was not able to scratch the scoreboard against Osvaldo Bido, Joe Jacques and Nicholas Economos. The three allowed just three hits and two walks to the Suns.

Kicking the Ball Around: In last night's loss to the Grasshoppers, the defense commited a season-high four errors. The team threw away back-to-back infield grounders with two outs in the fifth inning with the score knotted at 0-0. The inning ended with the Grasshoppers scoring four runs, ultimately leading to their 6-0 victory.

CASHING IN THE INHERITANCE: Through two games, Suns relievers have inherited three runners, Chandler Day received one from Tomas Alastre Thursday and Ryan Tapani picked up two from Cate Friday, and they have allowed all three inherited runners to score to start the season.

MOVING DAY WOES: When the Suns have gotten runners in scoring position, they have had trouble moving them home in the first two games. The offense is now 2-18 (.111) on the season with runners in scoring position after finishing 0-3 with runners on second or third Friday night.

PAT'S BACK: Skipper Patrick Anderson is returning for his sixth season in the Hub City. Anderson has a franchise record 363 wins under his belt and has guided the suns to two playoff berths in his five seasons at the helm. The Maryland-native led the Suns to the 2014 South Atlantic League Championship game in his first season with the team. Prior to his time with Hagerstown, Anderson led the Gulf Coast Nationals to the team's best winning percentage in team history and a league championship.

TOP TALENT: The Suns are sporting seven of MLB.com's top 30 prospects on their roster this season. Yasel Antuna is starting the season on the injured list, but Tim Cate, Alastre and Jake Irvin are manning the rotation for the Suns and backstop Pineda, shortstop Jose Sanchez and outfielder Gage Canning will play the field for the Hub City in 2019.

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN: There are seven players who have played at least one game donning a Suns uniform on the Opening Day roster. Alastre and Cate in the rotation both finished last season in Hagerstown, while Jackson Stoeckinger and Jhonatan German both logged innings for Hagerstown in 2018 and will be coming out of the pen this season. Nic Perkins played one game for Hagerstown last season before getting injured and spending the rest of the season in Auburn and will return to the Suns this year. Finally, Juan Pascal and Canning are returning in the field for Hagerstown. Both played in more than 10 games for Hagerstown last year.

SHOWING OFF THE FAMILY: Two Suns players have relatives that have played Major League Baseball. Tapani's father, Kevin, played 13 seasons in the bigs from 1989-2001. In addition to that, Jamori Blash's brother, Jabari, played 24 games last year for the Los Angeles Angels. He also spent parts of two seasons with the San Diego Padres.
