Gwizzlies will be a force in Gwinnett County

September 9, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Atlanta Vision News Release

With little over two months before the start of the ABA basketball season on November 15, the Gwinnett Gwizzlies want to immediately join the ranks alongside the Gwinnett Gladiators, a minor league professional hockey team, as one of the county's main sports attractions for its nearly 700,000 residents states Gwizzlies officials.

Gwinnett County has the largest public school system in Georgia and one of the franchise goals is having Gwinnett schools participate in Gwizzlies activities. Two of the Southeast's largest malls, the Mall of Georgia and Gwinnett Place mall are retail centers that are earmarked on the Gwizzlies calender for special events. Gwinnett Sports Authority and Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce will also be in integral part of the Gwizzlies outreach. Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church and its outstanding pastor, Rev. Sheilds will be the Gwizzlies focal point in gathering support and involvement from the religious community. The Gwinnett Daily Post newpaper continues to informed county residents on a consistent basis the progress of the Gwizzlies as a developing ABA expansion franchise. The Gwizzlies think they are on schedule to be the flagship franchise in the ABA and minor league professional basketball this season.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
