Dance for Health in Gwinnett

April 19, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Atlanta Vision News Release

DULUTH, GA - April 19, 2008 -Vision of Excellence and GoGirlGo! Atlanta are looking for girls, ages 8 to 11, to apply for their special summer dance program, "A New Vision For You". The purpose of "A New Vision For You" is to expose girls to exercise through dance, encourage healthy lifestyle choices, foster team building, promote positive self-esteem, and utilize the GoGirlGo! educational program to build their leadership skills. The 2008 summer program is proud to be in its third year and will serve girls in Gwinnett County who are overweight, in a single-parent household, or economically disadvantaged.

"A New Vision For You" will get a girl going in a positive direction that will reduce her risk of health related issues in the future and give her the foundation for an active lifestyle. Former program participants experienced increased results in strength, flexibility, self-esteem, endurance, and energy levels, while decreasing their body fat percentage and negative attitudes toward physical activity. Dance is an excellent form of physical activity that can be easily performed with a larger physique. Dancing regularly can increase metabolism, agility, and bone strength to become an important preventative measure against youth obesity.
