Gwinnett's Nesbitt Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Derek Nesbitt of the Gwinnett Gladiators is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Oct. 18-24.

Nesbitt had five goals, six points and was +7 as the Gladiators went 2-0-0 last week, improving their overall record to 3-0-1.

Nesbitt tallied three goals, including two shorthanded, and added an assist as part of a +5 effort in Friday's 6-2 win over South Carolina. He added two more goals, including the game winner, in a 5-2 win over Florida on Saturday.

The 28 year old is third in the ECHL with five goals and is tied for third with eight points.

Nesbitt has 230 points (83g-147a) in 204 regular season games and 35 points (15g-20a) in 43 Kelly Cup Playoffs games with Gwinnett, Idaho and Toledo. He also has appeared in 123 American Hockey League games with Rockford, San Antonio and Manitoba scoring 59 points (27g-32a).

On behalf of Derek Nesbitt, a case of pucks will be donated to a Gwinnett youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 23,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.

Runners Up: Alex Imbeault, Florida (3gp, 6g, 0a, 6 pts), Kory Karlander, Kalamazoo (3gp, 3g, 4a, 7 pts) and Andrew Lord, Wheeling (3 gp, 2g, 3a, 5 pts).

Also Nominated: Joey Ryan (Bakersfield), Jeff Corey (Ontario), Mike Hedden (Toledo), Ric Jackman (Utah) and Matt Siddall (Victoria).
