Gwinnett Braves Announce 2011 Opening Day Roster

The Gwinnett Braves set their roster today for the team's third season in Gwinnett County, revealing an accomplished list of players that will take to Coolray Field in 2011. The roster features two of the Atlanta Braves organization's top four prospects according to Baseball America, 11 players with Major League experience, as well as both the G-Braves' all-time wins and saves leaders. Atlanta's top prospect RHP Julio Teheran - ranked by ESPN, Baseball America and Major League Baseball as a top 10 prospect in the game - will feature in the G-Braves starting rotation. Leading the starting pitchers will be Braves 2009 first round pick LHP Mike Minor, who pitched with both Gwinnett and Atlanta last season.

Included in the Major League vets on the roster are RHP Rodrigo Lopez (2010 Arizona Diamondbacks innings pitched leader), RHP Scott Proctor (second on the N.Y. Yankees all-time, single-season appearances leader board) and OF Jordan Schafer (2009 Atlanta Opening Day outfielder).

Two returning Gwinnett Braves alums are RHP Todd Redmond (G-Braves all-time wins leader) and RHP Jairo Asencio (G-Braves all-time saves leader, formerly known as Luis Valdez).

Overall, the G-Braves Opening Day roster features nine players on Atlanta's 40-Man Roster. There are also 13 returning Gwinnett Braves that were on either the team's inaugural 2009 roster or with last year's squad. The Gwinnett Braves open the 2011 campaign on Thursday, April 7, vs. Durham at 7:05 p.m. It marks the second consecutive year that the club will open the season at home in Coolray Field.

The season-opening roster includes 12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and four outfielders. There are also three players on the disabled list and one on the temporary inactive list:

CATCHERS (2): J.C. Boscan, Wilkin Castillo (S)

INFIELDERS (6): Shawn Bowman, Mauro Gomez, Diory Hernandez, Ed Lucas, Joe Mather, Daniel Nelson (S)

OUTFIELDERS (4): Willie Cabrera, Jose Constanza (L), Wilkin Ramirez, Jordan Schafer (L)
