CARY, N.C. - Defensive midfielder, Chris Nurse has signed and will return to the Carolina RailHawks for the 2012 NASL Season. Nurse, a key part of the 2011 RailHawks that won the regular season championship, will be returning to Wake Med Soccer Park along with other key returnees Kupono Low, Nick Zimmerman, Cory Miller, and Akira Fitzgerald.
Nurse, appearing in 21 games for the RailHawks, is known as a commanding midfielder capable of disrupting attacks and distributing the ball. The 2012 season will reunite Head Coach Colin Clarke with Nurse after he coached the midfielder in Puerto Rico in 2010 when the Islanders won the USSF D-2 Championship.
The international midfielder has been very active in the Guyana National Team and was named captain in September of 2011 for the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers. Nurse led Guyana to an upset over group favorites, Trinidad & Tobago, to advance to the 3rd round of World Cup Qualifying. In 3rd round group play, Nurse and Guyana will take on CONCACAF powers Mexico, Costa Rica, and El Salvador.
"I'm glad to have Chris return to the RailHawks, he has a great deal of international experience and has a great deal of success at the club and international level," said Head Coach Colin Clarke. "He is an aggressive, controlling midfielder who has the ability to take over a match."
Chris Nurse and the 2012 RailHawks will make their debut on Sunday, March 4 at 3:00 pm against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 4th Annual Hilton Garden Inn Durham Southpoint Community Shield Match.
