Adirondack Phantoms News Release

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they have recalled defenseman Erik Gustafsson from the Adirondack Phantoms, according to club GM Paul Holmgren. Gustafsson will be available for Philadelphia's game tonight against the New York Islanders.

Gustafsson was previously recalled to the Flyers on Februrary 16 and joined the team in Montreal, where he appeared in his first game of the season. He played in the next 10 games for the Flyers, posting two assists and averaging 18:01 of ice time, but was scratched in the Flyers last contest vs. Buffalo.

He returned to the Phantoms on March 12 appearing in seven games with the team in his latest two-week stretch scoring one goal and three assists. His goal on March 19 at Norfolk was his 100th career professional point between Adirondack and Philadelphia combined.

The Kvissleby, Sweden native has played in 39 games with Adirondack this season scoring 5-17-22. He was also selected to represent the Adirondack Phantoms in the AHL All-Star Classic for the second time in his career but he was replaced on the roster by Brandon Manning due to nagging injury issues.

In 2011-12, he split his time pretty evenly between the Phantoms and the Flyers. He played 28 games with Adirondack posting 1-16-17 and he played in 30 games with Philadelphia scoring 1-4-5. He also would score a key goal in the NHL Playoffs in Philadelphia's series-clinching victory over Pittsburgh on April 22, 2012.

"Gus" had an outstanding rookie season with Adirondack posting 5 goals and 44 assists in 2010-11 to finish second on the team in points just one behind Denis Hamel. His 44 assists are a single-season record for the Adirondack Phantoms.

Gustafsson is also the Adirondack Phantoms all-time assist leader with 82. He has 95 career points in the AHL which places him third all-time in Adirondack Phantoms' history trailing only Denis Hamel (96) and Jason Akeson (99).

Adirondack travels to Binghamton on Friday night to play the Senators and then returns home Saturday night taking on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders. Saturday is Phantoms Poster Night for the first 3,000 fans in attendance courtesy of Glens Falls Printing featuring a Team Autograph session after the game in Heritage Hall.
