San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls have re-signed forwards Mark Woolf and Dennis Purdie for the 2002-03 season, the West Coast Hockey League club announced today.
Woolf, 31, joins the club for his fourth season. Last season he led the league with 50 goals and was second, only to teammate John Spoltore, with 97 points. He was also the league leader in power-play, short-handed and game-winning goals. Those numbers led him to league MVP honors as well as a first team All-WCHL selection. The 6-foot-1-inch native of Brandon, Manitoba has crept to second in franchise history with 139 goals (41 away from Martin St. Amour).
Purdie, 29, will also start his fourth season with the Blue and Orange come October. The 5-foot-10-inch native of Amherstburg Ontario put up solid numbers again last season, netting 49 points (23g, 26a). Purdie has notched 121 points since joining the club in 1999.
"Signing Mark and Dennis is a big boost to our nucleus," Gulls Head Coach and General Manager Steve Martinson said. "Both are key ingredients to the team's success and we now have two-thirds of our top line back for next season."
Spoltore, the other fixture on San Diego's top line from 2001-02, is also expected back next season. The line combined for 259 points last season, by far the best in the WCHL.
San Diego will began its eight season in the WCHL this October. Season ticket packages are currently on sale. Contact a Gulls ticket representative at 619-224-4625 ext. 7 for more information.
