San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls have re-signed defenseman Clint Cabana for the 2002-03 season, the West Coast Hockey League club announced today.

The 6'2, 205-pound native of Bonnyville, Alberta joins the team for his second season. Cabana racked up 234 penalty minutes for the Gulls last season while playing only in 40 games. He was put on the season-ending injured list halfway through the year with a shoulder injury.

"We look forward to getting a healthy Cabana for the entire season. We missed his physical presence in the playoffs and he will certainly give our team a boost next year," said Head Coach and General Manager Steve Martinson.

Cabana, 24, began his career in 1994 playing for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Western Hockey League. He played most of his career in the WHL but has also spent time in the American and East Coast hockey leagues. Among his career highlights, Cabana ranked second in the Western Pro Hockey League in penalty minutes with 293 in 2000-01. He also ranked second on Edmonton (of the WHL) in penalty minutes in 1996-97.

The San Diego Gulls will begin the 2002-2003 season in October. Season ticket packages are currently on sale. Contact a San Diego Gulls account executive at 619-224-4625 ext 7 for more information.
