San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls announced on Tuesday that their flagship radio station (1360AM) has changed its call letters from KPOP to KLSD.

Clear Channel Radio made the switch and launched KLSD 1360AM, San Diego's Progressive Talk Station, featuring Air America Radio Network programming on Aug. 23.

The new "progressive" talk format is a radical new talk format in the San Diego Radio market. The station was created to utilize a combination of local and nationally renowned personalities that reflect the viewpoint of a large segment of the San Diego community.

Chris Ello will continue to be the play-by-play voice of the Gulls. Ello began his broadcasting stint with San Diego midway through the 1995-96 season. Since then he has called 671 games (including all playoff games), missing only three games during his tenure. Ello will broadcast his 700th career Gulls game on Jan. 5, 2005.

2003-04 was the first season the Gulls aired games live on 1360AM. Their previous flagship radio station was 1130AM KSDO, also owned by Clear Channel. The Gulls open training camp on Friday, Oct. 8. Their second season in the ECHL is slated to begin Friday, Oct. 22 in Long Beach with the home opener scheduled Saturday, Oct. 23 against Fresno. Season ticket packages are currently on sale. For pricing and benefits, contact 619-224-GOAL, ext. 7. Individual tickets will go on sale starting Saturday, Sept. 25.
