Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Green Bay Blizzard quarterback Gino Guidugli has signed with the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League. After throwing six touchdowns in route to the Blizzard's Friday night victory over the Louisville Fire, Guidugli decided over the weekend to pursue an opportunity with B.C. Lions football club. In four games the Lions have had three quarterbacks combine to throw only three touchdown passes. Original starter Dave Dickerson is still questionable following a concussion suffered weeks earlier and back-up Buck Pierce suffered bruised ribs in the team's 22-18 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last Thursday. The Lions quarterback woes have not prevented the team from having success however, as the team stands at an impressive 4-0 overall. Former University of Notre Dame quarterback Jarious Jackson is the Lion's lone healthy quarterback beside the newly acquired Guidugli.
"This is a great opportunity for Gino to move up," commented Blizzard head coach Doug Lytle on Gino's decision to head to Canada. "Our goal as an organization is to give players the opportunity to showcase their skills in the hopes of moving on to other leagues. Gino has proven himself as one of the better quarterbacks in the af2 and now has the opportunity to prove himself in the CFL," added Lytle.
In eight starts for the Blizzard, the 6'3, 225 pound former Cincinnati Bearcat threw for 1,675 yards and 40 touchdowns. Guidugli's impressive 108.46 quarterback rating helped ignite a Blizzard offense that has scored 69 or more points in each of its three consecutive wins. Guidugli also tied a team record for most touchdowns in a single game with nine in the team's win over the Albany Conquest on July 6th.
The team's most recent win over the Louisville Fire secured a third consecutive playoff berth for the Blizzard as they head into the last week of the regular season. Zeke Dixon will likely take over the starting job for the Blizzard when the team takes on the Mahoning Valley Thunder on Saturday, July 28th. Dixon is in his second year with the Blizzard and started six games for the team thus far in 2007.
A win this week over the Thunder will give the Blizzard the Midwest Division championship and a home playoff game on August 3rd. For more information contact the Blizzard office at (920) 405-1264.
