Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, Texas – The Central Hockey League and the Laredo Bucks announced today that David Guerrera has been selected as the CHL Oakley Goalie of the Week. Guerrera set a franchise record with back-to-back shutouts over the weekend. Laredo is home this Friday against the Odessa Jackalopes. In addition the Bucks host the 2005 Dodge CHL All-Star Game on Wednesday, January 12th, at the Laredo Entertainment Center. For Bucks or 2005 Dodge CHL All-Star Game tickets call (956)-718-BUCKS (2825) or log onto www.laredobucks.com and buy tickets online.

Guerrera, the 2003-04 CHL Rookie of the Year and CHL Playoff MVP, stopped 24 shots on Friday night in a 1-0 blanking of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on New Years Eve. It was the first 1-0 victory in Bucks franchise history. Saturday night he turned aside 19 shots and shutout Austin on the road 2-0.

Prior to this weekend Guerrera had not played since December 2nd. Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski and the goalies made a deal that if a goaltender won they would stay in net. Guerrera suffered a tough 2-1 loss on December 2nd in Lubbock and then Bucks goalie Jeremy Symington reeled off eight straight wins. Symington was selected as the CHL Oakley Goalie of the Week on December 13th.

"David was a very patient and supportive goalie when Symington was going thru his eight game winning streak," Ruskowski said. "He never complained at all he just worked hard in practice every day to be ready. It is very fitting and rewarding that David is getting this recognition after playing so well this weekend."

Guerrera also surpassed a franchise record by running his shutout streak to 144:17, dating back to December 2nd. Marc Andre-Leclerc held the old franchise record at 115:42 set during the 2002-03 season.

Last season Guerrera came close to the record as he went 112:30 without allowing a goal. The CHL record for scoreless minutes by a goalie is 222:01 held by Shawn Silver of the Indianapolis Ice in the 2002-03 season.

In addition he also surpassed the Bucks franchise record for consecutive shutout periods. Guerrera has not given up a goal in seven straight periods, again dating back to December 2nd. The old franchise record was five, jointly held by Guerrera and Leclerc.
