Calgary Vipers News Release
Calgary opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Lentini hit his league leading 16th double of the season, Nelson Castro sacrifice bunted him to third base, Jorge Mejia walked, and Joe Jiannetti made the score 1-0 with a run batted in groundout.
The Vipers added to their lead in the second frame as Drew Miller doubled and Guarno hit his second home run of the season for a 3-0 advantage.
Tucson responded in the top of the third as Lino Garcia was hit by a pitch, stole second base, and scored on a Andre Marshall RBI single. Jim Rushford followed with a RBI double and Mayo Santana knocked in a run with a base hit to tie the game 3-3.
In the bottom of the inning Calgary took back the lead as Jiannetti walked, Colin Moro was hit by a pitch, and Miller reached on a fielding error by first baseman Dustin Yount which also allowed Jiannetti to score. Mark Okano followed with a walk to load the bases and Guarno was hit by a pitch for a RBI and the 5-3 score.
Back came the Toros in the next half inning as Ryan Priddy doubled and Yount smashed a two-out, two-run blast to knot up the score at 5-5.
Tucson took their first lead of the game in the fifth frame as Santana singled and scored on a Priddy RBI double for a 6-5 advantage.
Calgary tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth as Guarno and Dillon O'Krane hit back-to-back doubles.
The Snakes broke open the game in the seventh inning as Moro singled, Miller walked, Okano reached on a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt to load the bases, and Guarno plated two with a base hit. After a sacrifice bunt by O'Krane, both Lentini and Castro singled home runs and with them at the corners Lentini once again stole home for a 11-6 lead.
A run was scored in the top of the eighth by Tucson as Skip Adams walked and scored on a Yount RBI double for a 11-7 game.
Six more runs were added by Calgary in the bottom of the inning as Moro doubled, Miller collected a RBI single, Okano singled, Guarno reached on an error by third baseman Santana to score a run, Lentini drove in two with a base hit, and both Castro and Jiannetti hit RBI singles for a 17-7 advantage.
In the top of the ninth inning the home plate umpire forgot how many balls there were in a two-out, bases loaded situation and on only ball three, awarded Yount a RBI walk. Marshall followed with a two run single to score three runs in the inning for a 17-10 final which all should have been avoided had the bad call not taken place. Santana walked, Priddy doubled, and Adams walked to load the bases initially.
