Tucson Toros News Release

Over five thousand fans witnessed a rare mixture of baseball and wresting Thursday, as the Tucson Toros took on a mystery squad of Surf Dawg players and wrestlers in a Lucha & Baseball Exhibition Game. The fun filled exhibition was full of wacky plays, on field shenanigans and even body slams.

With mic'ed wrestlers as coaches, the Surf Dawgs tried gaining every advantage possible with lots of exchanges with the umpires and Toros coaching staff. Many rules were broken, including late in the game when a Surf Dawg got a base hit but decided to round the bases the wrong way, running to third and then stealing both second and first on subsequent pitches. The game came to a halt in the 6th inning when the players streamed off of the field when the Public Announcer made the last call for Thirsty Thursday, with a final score of 8-3 Surf Dawgs. The exhibition game was added to the schedule so that fans wouldn't miss out on all the Thirsty Thursday fun after the Tijuana Potros, the team's original opponent for the night, withdrew from the 2009 GBL season.

Now that they've grappled with professional wrestlers, the Toros will depart on an 8-game Canadian roadtrip beginning Friday, June 25th when they take on the Calgary Vipers at 6:05 pm. local Tucson time. A linked feed of the Calgary broadcast will be available at www.tucsontoros.com. The Toros next homestand will begin on Independence Day with a 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular beginning at 7:00 pm.
