Saginaw Spirit News Release
Saginaw, Mich. - The Saginaw Spirit Charitable Foundation, in conjunction with Huntington National Bank, is excited to share the beginning of a new partnership to help Great Lakes Bay Region's youth play hockey by providing scholarship money towards player fees and equipment.
When the Spirit take on the Erie Otters on Thursday, March 9th, the team will be auctioning off the "Guardians of the Ice" player character posters and sticks signed by members of 2023 Saginaw Spirit to help fund this great program. Scholarships will be awarded to families within the Bay County Hockey Association, Midland Amateur Hockey League and Saginaw Amateur Hockey Association.
"It is an honor to be partnering with Huntington National Bank on this scholarship program and seeing how the Saginaw Spirit can further support local youth hockey," said Spirit President & Managing Partner Craig Goslin. "Development of our region's youth hockey players, both on and off the ice, is the focus of this partnership. This will evolve, over the next five seasons, into a very successful community effort for the betterment of the Great Lakes Bay Regions youth. This effort will put lots of smiles on faces."
Applications for the scholarship will be available in the late summer, and the scholarship money will be shared between the three counties' youth hockey players. The Spirit and Huntington National Bank want to ensure that no player is left behind and everyone has the opportunity to play the great game of hockey.
The importance of local hockey is perfectly illustrated by Spirit defenseman and Saginaw native Mitchell Smith. The 20-year-old defenseman is the team's active games played leader with 178 contests in a Spirit uniform.
"Saginaw Amateur Hockey Association is where I started and I am grateful for the Saginaw Spirit to invest money back into our local community," said Mitchell Smith, Saginaw spirit player.
Join us on March 9th in front of guest services to help build this local scholarship program for youth hockey in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
